Major coastal flooding is possible late this weekend\n into early next week.\n \n - Heavy rain and isolated flash flooding is possible across the\n east coast metros Sunday through Monday.\n\n - Strong winds, with gusts over 35 mph are possible Sunday\n through Monday.\n\n - Dangerous marine and beach conditions are expected through\n early next week.\n\n&&\n\n.SHORT TERM...\n(Today through Sunday)\nIssued at 307 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026\n\nSouth Florida finds itself at the base of a positively tilted mid-level\nlongwave trough. Water vapor imagery and upper air sounding \nobservations from around the state indicate that deep layer dry \nair is currently in place across most of Florida, keeping \nconditions more dry and stable through the region. As the main \ntrough axis swings across the state through tomorrow, unsettled \nweather will remain across the more unstable Gulf Stream waters. \nA few isolated showers may hug the Atlantic coastline during the\nday, but most activity will remain offshore. Deeper moisture \nremains further southeast over the Bahamas and closer to a \nstalled boundary near eastern Cuba, where a complex of \nthunderstorms is currently ongoing. However, here in South \nFlorida, model soundings seem to indicate that moisture content \nwill actually trend drier on Saturday. Precipitable water values \nwill drop from a near average 1.6 inches, to a bottom tenth \npercentile of 0.8 to 0.9 inches. Models hint at the drier air \nreaching the surface this time, with dewpoints dropping into the \nlower 60s through the middle of the day. As a result, PoPs will be\nvery low across most of South Florida, less than 10% for most \nareas. In addition to the dry air, subsidence aloft should keep \nany showers from being able to mature or develop. Coastal \nconvergence may be possible, but there is very low confidence for\nrain amounts to be anything greater than half an inch through \ntomorrow afternoon.\n\nForecast confidence for the Saturday night through Sunday period has \nquite honestly decreased. Ensemble and deterministic guidance \ncontinues to struggle with a solution for the shortwave feature \ncoming off of the Carolina coast. There is less agreement among \nguidance as to weather this feature develops into a closed mid-level \nlow as it tracks southward along the Florida coastline, or \nwhether it stays an open wave and join the overall longwave \ntroughing pattern. Solutions also differ as to how fast and how \nfar east and south this feature will move over the next two days. \nThis has major implications on the amount of rainfall South \nFlorida may get. A deeper, slower, and more westerly tracking \nsystem would increase chances of precipitation areawide. However, \nmost model guidance has continued to trend lower with \nprecipitation amounts. WPC QPF ensemble clusters show that 1 to \n1.5 inches through Monday would be the highest confidence scenario\nto play out. Yet, there is one cluster of solutions that shows a \nscenario of 3 to 4 inches possible (but this is a lower \nconfidence scenario). Overall, better dynamics aloft and increased\nstreams of vorticity across the region will favor greater shower \nand storm activity. PoPs will climb into the 70% to 80% range over\nthe eastern metro. Coastal convergence may allow for several \nstorms to focus along the coastline for several hours, so a Slight\nRisk of excessive rainfall exits for minor urban flooding along \nlow lying and poor drainage locations. \n\nBreezy northeasterly winds will continue to strengthen through the \nweekend for all areas. Breezy winds may combine with high surf and \nunusually high tides over the weekend. This may result in \nmoderate to potentially major tidal flooding for coastal areas \nalong Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Remember to never \ndrive, walk, or wade across flooded roads. \n\n&&\n\n.LONG TERM...\n(Sunday night through Friday)\nIssued at 307 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026\n\nBy the time Sunday night rolls around, strong surface high pressure \nover the mid-Atlantic states and deepening surface troughing over \nthe northern Caribbean will create a tightening pressure gradient \nacross the Florida coastline. As a result, winds will continue to \nstrengthen into Monday and Tuesday. Sustained winds over the waters \nwill already be howling at 30 mph starting on Sunday, but the \nstrongest overall winds inland look to be moreso on Monday. Some \nareas will be flirting with Wind Advisory criteria, with gusts of \n35 to 40 mph possible. There is pretty high confidence that winds \nwill at least reach 25 mph for many locations, but probabilities \nfor winds greater than 30 mph area only around 30%. Nevertheless, \nthese conditions have the potential to break weak tree branches \nand blow around loose objects and debris.\n\nStrong winds and high surf will combine with the highest King Tides \nof the year early next week. This will result in the potential for \nmoderate and major tidal flooding. This tidal flooding may also be \nexacerbated by coastal showers and rainfall, which could lead to \nsignificant water rises along the far eastern metro areas. While the \npeak tides will be during the beginning of the week, moderate coastal \nflooding may persist through the end of the week as we come out of \nthis full moon phase.\n\nDeeper moisture, with increased PWATs of around 1.6 to 1.8 inches, \nwill persist over South Florida through at least Tuesday. This will \nkeep the potential of scattered showers and storms moving along the \neastern half of South Florida. A few localized stronger storms and \ncoastal convergence may create some minor urban flooding concerns. \nHowever, the threat of rainfall will generally be on the downtrend \nafter Monday as the mid-level troughing pattern finally ejects \nout into the Atlantic. Ridging from the Gulf and drier air from \nthe north will begin to exert more influence over Florida for the \nmiddle to end of the week. This will likely result in decreasing \ncoverage of showers and storms areawide. But with persistent \nnortheast flow continuing, pesky onshore showers from the Gulf \nStream will continue to be a nuisance each day through the end of\nthe week.\n\n&&\n\n.AVIATION...\n(12Z TAFS)\nIssued at 726 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026\n\nMainly VFR conditions will prevail across South Florida\ntoday. Light NNW winds across all east coast terminals this \nmorning will shift out of the NNE between 13Z and 15Z, with gusts\nthroughout the afternoon of around 20 kts. Will keep VCSH through\nthe entire day today and into Sunday for aforementioned terminals\nwith isolated to scattered SHRA expected. Winds lighten to a \ndegree overnight with another developing land breeze across the \neast coast, before increasing out of the NNE again after daybreak \nSunday. Steady NNE winds at KAPF remaining gusty.\n\n&&\n\n.MARINE...\nIssued at 307 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026\n\nHazardous marine conditions will continue through the \nmiddle of next week, with conditions progressively worsening over \nthe latter half of the weekend. Northeasterly winds will increase \ninto the 20 to 25 kt range for both the Atlantic and Gulf waters on \non Saturday. Widespread Small Craft Advisory conditions will be \ncommon across all waters through Sunday, but stronger winds on \nSunday evening and Monday are leading to increased confidence for \nGale force gusts along the Atlantic waters. Probabilities of \nexceeding 30 kt winds climbs to around 40% on Sunday night. \nScattered to numerous showers and storms are also expected to \ndevelop along the Atlantic for the Sunday through Tuesday period. \nHeavy rainfall, lightning, and locally higher seas will be a threat \nwith any storm. Seas are currently forecast to peak around 6-9 feet \nin the Gulf and 10-14 feet across the Atlantic waters Sunday night \ninto Monday. High seas and breezy conditions will persist through at \nleast the middle of the week, before conditions finally start to \nrelax during the end of the week.\n\n&&\n\n.BEACHES...\nIssued at 307 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026\n\nA high risk of rip currents will persist for all Atlantic beaches \nthrough at least the middle of next week. Surf heights will begin to \nclimb today but peak on Sunday and Monday. Dangerous surf heights of \n10 to 12 feet may be possible for the northern Palm Beach area \nthrough Tuesday. Strong onshore wind flow and high seas may combine \nwith King Tides to increase the threat of coastal flooding along the \nAtlantic coast. See the hydrology section below for a discussion on \nthe upcoming King Tide cycle as well. There is increasing confidence \nthat most of these beach hazards will need to be extended into the \nmiddle of the week. \n\n&&\n\n.HYDROLOGY...\nIssued at 229 PM EDT Fri Oct 23 2026\n\nThe combination of elevated coastal water levels due to King\nTides, persistent onshore wind flow, and localized pockets of the\narea that can easily become saturated due to antecedent rainfalls\ncreates a concern for flooding from excessive rainfall Sunday \ninto Monday. Adding in the moderate to major coastal flooding \nwhich could materialize due to the king tides along the Atlantic \ncoast, it could be difficult for water to drain from some coastal \nareas late this weekend into early next week until the window \naround low tide comes. Held off on a Flood Watch with this \nforecast cycle as a drier outlook for Saturday still makes the \ntiming a bit premature, but it will have to be considered if the \nforecast trend continues.\n\n&&\n\n.PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...\nMiami 83 70 84 74 / 20 20 70 60 \nWest Kendall 84 70 85 74 / 0 10 50 40 \nOpa-Locka 84 69 85 73 / 20 30 60 60 \nHomestead 84 69 85 73 / 10 10 50 60 \nFort Lauderdale 82 70 83 74 / 20 50 70 80 \nN Ft Lauderdale 83 71 83 74 / 20 50 70 80 \nPembroke Pines 84 68 85 72 / 20 40 60 70 \nWest Palm Beach 83 70 83 74 / 20 60 80 80 \nBoca Raton 82 70 83 73 / 20 50 80 80 \nNaples 84 67 86 70 / 0 0 20 0 \n\n&&\n\n.MFL WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...\nFL...Coastal Flood Advisory until 2 AM EDT Sunday for FLZ168-172-173.\n\n High Rip Current Risk through Monday evening for FLZ168-172-173.\n\n High Surf Advisory until 8 PM EDT Monday for FLZ168.\n\n Coastal Flood Watch from late tonight through Monday evening for \n FLZ168-172-173.\n\nAM...Small Craft Advisory from 2 AM Sunday to 8 PM EDT Monday for \n AMZ610.\n\n Small Craft Advisory until 8 PM EDT Monday for AMZ630.\n\n Small Craft Advisory until 2 PM EDT Sunday for AMZ650-651-670-\n 671.\n\n Gale Watch from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening for \n AMZ650-651-670-671.\n\nGM...Small Craft Advisory until 8 PM EDT Monday for GMZ656-657-676.\n\n&&\n\n$$\n\nSHORT TERM...NMP\nLONG TERM....NMP\nAVIATION...AD\n"
