Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
800 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of America:

Off the East Coast of the United States (AL93):
A storm-force non-tropical low pressure area located a few hundred
miles off the North Carolina coast is producing some shower and
thunderstorm activity primarily west of its center. However,
overnight satellite wind data indicated the low was still attached
to an occluded front. Over the next couple of days, the low could
develop some organized deep convection and gradually lose its
frontal features while it moves slowly north-northeastward over the
Gulf Stream, allowing the system to briefly develop subtropical
characteristics. By the end of the week, the system is expected to
accelerate northeastward away from the the eastern United States,
where environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable
for additional subtropical or tropical development.

Regardless of the status of the system, high winds, coastal
flooding, and dangerous surf are expected along portions of the U.S.
East Coast during the next few days. For more information, please
consult statements and warnings from local National Weather Service
offices and the Weather Prediction Center, along with High Seas
Forecasts and Storm Warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...40 percent.

 - Hazardous marine conditions continue today for the Atlantic and

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Wednesday)
Issued at 103 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026

Latest analysis shows a stalled frontal boundary along the FL
Straits, surface low pressure well off the Mid Atlantic coast, and
strong high pressure over eastern Canada. At the upper levels, there
is ridging over the center of the country and upper level lows off
both coasts of the US. Overall, the pattern won't change much today
or Wednesday. Latest 00Z sounding shows a lot of mid and upper level
dry air and forecast soundings show the dry air aloft remaining in
place. There will be enough low level moisture in place with the
steady N/NE breeze for widely scattered showers to continue across
the east coast metro, with overall fairly dry conditions over the
interior and SW FL.

High temperatures both today and Wednesday will be in the low to
middle 80s across the east coast metro and around Lake Okeechobee,
and mid to upper 80s over SW FL and the southern Everglades. Low
temperatures tonight will range from the low to middle 60s across SW
FL, to upper 60s and lower 70s across SE FL.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through Monday)
Issued at 103 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026

As we head towards the end of the work week, heights continue to
fall across the region and eventually an upper level low will form
in the vicinity of Cuba over the weekend. Wrap around moisture will
increase rain chances, especially across the east coast metro. In
addition to the higher rain chances, the pressure gradient will
tighten once again as strong high pressure builds into New England.
Expect breezy NE winds this weekend into early next week, with early
indications of wind gusts of 30-40 mph possible, especially along
the coast.

High temperatures during the extended period will be fairly
consistent, ranging from the low to middle 80s each day. Overnight
temps will be in the 60s/70s.

&&

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 732 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026

VFR conditions will prevail throughout the forecast period. NE
winds will increase after 15z and range between 10 to 15 kts
through the afternoon hours. Wind gusts of 20 to 25 kts will be
possible across all terminals after 15z. Scattered showers will
remain possible near the east coast terminals mainly through the
early afternoon hours.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 103 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026

Hazardous marine conditions will continue through mid week with NE
winds 20-25 kts today decreasing to 15-20 kts on Wednesday. Seas in
the Atlantic 8-12 ft today decreasing to 4-8 ft on Wednesday. Seas
in the Gulf 3-6 ft today and 1-3 ft on Wednesday. Hazardous seas
will likely linger in portions of the Atlantic waters through the
end of the week, and then hazardous conditions for all local waters
are expected this weekend as an upper level low forms to our south
in the Caribbean and the pressure gradient locally tightens.

&&

.BEACHES...
Issued at 103 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026

Strong NE flow and dangerous swell will result in a high risk of rip
currents continuing for the Atlantic coast through at least
Thursday. In addition, large breaking waves in the surf zone is
expected along the Palm Beach coast through Wednesday morning and
Broward coast through this evening.

With the upcoming King Tide cycle, minor to moderate coastal
flooding is possible beginning mid week and lasting through at least
the upcoming weekend around the high tide cycles each day.
